So once you have quit smoking, how soon do you begin to see the benefits? The medical experts believe after extensive testing and trials that you may not see the benefits straight away but the affects on your body are instant. This is one of the main reasons that stopping smoking no matter how long you have smoked for can cut down your risks of disease as soon as you put out that first cigarette. The most dangerous and common on these is lung and throat cancer, by quitting you are cutting your chances down of having the disease.
There are other medical benefits that are seen immediately as soon as you stop smoking; your sperm count and quality will rise if you are a man, the chances of getting eye and retina problems are reduced, quality of egg and lining of the womb are increased if you are a woman and impotence can also be a problem of the past. Your lungs will begin to clear and you will find it easier to breathe, also when exercising you will notice that you get out of breathe less easily. Your immune system will become healthier and your body will be more efficient at creating antibodies to fight off bugs and viruses that often plague a smoker more than a non smoker. Medical research has proven that if you quit smoking before the age of thirty your body will have the time to repair itself by the time you are forty as if you never touched a cigarette in your life! Think of the health benefits you will be allowing yourself to have in old age, smokers find that they are plagued with illness and chest problems with old age, if you quit now you will be less likely to get any of these health related risks.
So lets break it down hour by hour, day to week and year to year the good you will be doing your body if you put out and stamp out smoking in your life;
Within twenty four hours your breathing will improve and you will find you have more energy. After seventy two hours the tubes leading to your lungs will start to clear of the mucus deposits, clearing the way for more oxygen to get into your system allowing your body to begin to repair itself. Your breathe will also stop smelling like an ashtray itself and kissing another none smoker will become more pleasant for them. If you kiss a smoker after becoming a non smoker you will understand what all the fuss has been about! After a week your taste buds will begin to improve and so will your sense of smell. You will begin to appreciate things you had forgotten you even knew smelled a certain way or even tasted a certain way. By the time a month has passed since your last cigarette your skin tone and structure will begin to have improved dramatically. When you smoke your skin becomes dry and more prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Smoking ages your appearance and by this stage you will begin to look more youthful again, wrinkles and lines will be less noticeable if not gone altogether! The skin on your fingers will become less discoloured if not totally clean and none yellow in appearance. Your lungs will also have completely cleared of mucus and deposits making breathing easier, coughing less and exercise a breeze. You will look like a whole new person!
After a year you have cut down your risk of having a heart attack or stroke by half and this percentage increases year after year. Once you reach your goal of ten years you will have halved your chances of getting lung and throat cancer and have the same chances of having a heart attack or stroke as any person who has never smoked!
